Bow down before the one you serve

May 6, 2008

Halo 27, fcol? We the Lollapalooza generation are decidedly growing lame. That doesn’t mean we can’t download an illegal thing or two and feel like an asset-free kid again. But thanks to Trent Reznor, we can at least download the new NIN fo’ free with no repercussions. In fact, the 100% DRM-free MP3s are delivered via zip, so you don’t even have to worry about stupid anti-mp3 security software keeping you from downloading it at work. Thanks be to bountiful corporate bandwidth!

Anytime an artist flips their gangly, black fingernail polished finger at the RIAA (I’m glaring at YOU, Lars Ulrich), I like the music just a little bit more. It’s typical NIN fare, self consciously dark, angry and a lot of noise; some performance artsy tracks; but a couple of user friendly tracks to please the “I used to haunt indie clubs but now I have a corporate job and a family” crowd too.

I’m the blond chick. Props to Mike the Pod for encapsulating the indie poseur era so well.
