Happy 8 Track Tape Day!
April 11, 2008
April 11 is the celebration of “8 Track Tape Day.” I had a pretty 8-track moment myself last week when I saw a picture of a guy I went to high school with in the “society” section of a local rag. Holy crap, he looks old!
Adding insult to injury, I took my feverish son to the (on call) doctor yesterday. He asked if there were going to be more little “God’s gifts” running around for us in the future. I hemmed and hawwed. He said, “Oh, well, you have time.” With my uterus crying out for Geritol, I told him my age and his face turned. “Oh, well, I guess you look good for your age then!” Uh, thanks, Dr. Cornyjokes, you really make me feel like going home and lip synching in the mirror to Summer Nights. “Summer dreams ripped at the seams… but ah… those suuu-uumer NIIII-IIIGHHHTS.”
Albums I can still picture next to my mother’s 8 track deck:
Stevie Nicks – Bella Donna
Fleetwood Mac – Rumors
Jefferson Starship – Gold
Carole King – Tapestry
My family was not cool enough to have owned this 8 track.

Stevie Nicks is pretty cool, FWIW. However, had it been Jefferson Airplane and not Starship I’d have a bit more respect.

Hey, at least it wasn’t the “We Built This City” Starship, because then I would have to sign up for childhood trauma therapy toot sweet.
